Took my #Meshcore devices in to work today and with the new antenna it's *so* easy to get messages out when you're three floors up!
Being picked up in Oxfordshire, the south coast, Lincolnshire... marvellous. 😁
Now if only there was a way for the network to join up with the continent. I think people on the south coast can see people's nodes in France and the Netherlands but I can't from the middle of England.

How come that even with a new Gizont (or similar) antenna I can't get messages out onto the mesh, but I can quite easily pick up 14 messages from the public channel in a row without a problem?
And my repeater can bounce other people's messages around the mesh?

My Xiao repeater has died. Fell apart at the wire connections.
My solar panel does a fraction of the job I expected it to do.
Time for a change of plan.
I've put the antenna back on one of my Wio L1s, and replaced the Xiao's one, so all three devices are now back to stock configurations.
I'll turn one of the L1s into a repeater and see how well it does, and sell the Xiao, TP4056 and battery.
Then later in the year I'll probably buy a better solar panel (than my current, Chinese, allegedly 35W one - any recommendations?) and another LoRa board to run Meshcore on.

Took my #Meshcore devices to work this morning. Three-storey building, and three quarters of the time got messages out onto the mesh, picked up by a repeater in London and bounced around the UK about 10 times. Pretty cool. :)
Also I nearly misspelled "mesh" as "mwah".

After a full day of charging in (late winter, northern hemisphere) direct sunshine, my new solar panel charged my power bank enough to recharge my #Meshcore repeater's battery by...
...somewhere between 6 and 10%. 🫤

I have three #Meshcore devices.
1) a Seeed Studio Xiao nRF[something] which is set up to be a repeater. It has the antenna of my second device, a stock Wio Tracker L1 Pro antenna.
2) a Seeed Studio Wio Tracker L1 Pro, with the antenna swapped with that of my first device. As such, its antenna is a little flappy strip of something.
3) a Seeed Studio Wio Tracker L1 Pro, unaltered, with original antenna.
Both devices 2 and 3 are companions.
Why, then, does device 3, with its larger, more substantial, 11cm-long antenna, see only a fraction of the messages in the Public and Test channels, whereas device 2 sees at least twice as much?
And why does my repeater struggle to get messages out on the mesh, but repeats others' messages quite happily?

Is there a petition anywhere for UK people to sign, to oppose our Great Leadership's plans to put VPNs behind age verification?
I've seen ones to oppose the NHS's integration of Palantir but not for that.

OK, 4 posts. I discovered this little den people had made. I felt I had to take a picture of it, partly because I thought it was cute and partly because it irritated me it was dangling with plastic shit people could have chosen not to bring.

I felt all arty doing this one over the tree trunk. I loved how the bluebells were even growing out of the moss covering the roots of the tree that had been unearthed.
And the second one is the side of the wood where it meets one of the neighbouring feels, and the view beyond.

Something that always astounds me about going around woods like this at this time of year, is how much it reminds me of TES IV: Oblivion.
When you walked around a woodland in that game, the game designers made it feel inexplicably authentic. I wanted there to be incidental music, and a tooltip to appear whenever I looked at something I could interact with.

Incoming: 3 posts showing off the loveliness that was the bluebell wood this morning.
I haven't done alt-text for them because if I did, they'd largely sound the same. Suffice to say, the sun is shining, the sky is blue, it's *almost* too warm, there is dappled shade and a carpet of beautiful deep blue, almost purple, bluebells.
To get to the wood, however, we walked through a field that had dandelions and lady's-smock growing in it (first image).

I recently discovered the website https://CommandingHands.co.uk/
It is in development, but it's so exciting to see something entirely free that aims to promote the use, teaching, resources for and profile of British Sign Language.
The website should be fully up and running by the middle of this year. 👍
Genuinely excited to see how this develops 🙂

Back in 2022 I did a Banned Books Week display inspired by @Richard_Littler@mastodon.social and #Scarfolk.
Hidden underneath each book were little notes saying things like "Put that back", "You're on CCTV" and "Isn't the 'No' poster big enough for you?"
It was to highlight that in many parts of the world - even those built on the buzzwords of freedom and democracy - a lot of books are deemed dangerous or undesirable by certain groups of privileged people who want to regulate and control others.
It got very positive feedback and so far I haven't been detained. I assume it's only a matter of time.
